INTRODUCING THE AMERICAN KETTLEBELL CLUB
Much interest has been growing around the sport of Kettlebell Lifting over the last ten years. You may have heard mention of kettlebells in fitness magazines or actually seen some bells lying around your gym. You can't pick up a magazine without reading about the latest celebrity workout that includes training with kettlebells.

But the biggest thing to happen to Kettlebells in America (go to article: Evolution of Kettlebells in America) occurred in January '07, when Valery Fedorenko and the American Kettlebell Club held their first Coaches Certification. Many of the secrets to true kettlebell lifting were finally out. As the AKC's Fire/Rescue Advisor, I attended that first training session, and many more thereafter. As Squad Leader, I've coached beside Valery at numerous AKC events, with many future certs planned. I've also coached Ashley Hughes to Master of Sport, only the third such female ranking in this country.

AKC FITNESS PROGRAM
On May 24th of 2008, the American Kettlebell Club together with the World Kettlebell Club, released their kettlebell fitness plan in New York City. This is a major step in bringing the unsurpassed benefits of kettlebell lifting to the masses. I've personally found the AKC fitness plan to be the stand-alone best all-around conditioning modality, bar none. Read more about the program: CLICK HERE

A LITTLE HISTORY ON KETTLEBELLS
The year before the first cert was ever held, a rather innocent kettlebell Team America attended their first competition in Latvia, and they were literally shocked at how little they knew about kettlebell lifting compared to the Eastern European athletes. Their performances mirrored their lack of proficiency, and many Americans, who previously considered themselves expert, realized they had a lot to learn.

If you clicked through to the Evolution of Kettlebells in America article, you read about all the unnecessary drama surrounding something so simple. No one is disputing that you can pick up any iron ball with a handle, and lift it any way you please. But for the BEST results with the most dramatic impact on the human body, there's really only one BEST way.

My coach, Valery Fedorenko, has been lifting and loving kettlebells since he's 12 years old. He was world champion at 21, but always with much dedication and discipline. Without the natural size and strength of many kettlebell champions, Valery relied on perfect technique, hard work, and a painstakingly scientific progression toward a specific goal.

He came to the United States with the intention of bringing his previously-perfected system to any American who recognized its value. His now trademarked, high-repetition timed sets require a certain level of technique to keep the lifter in the set -- without putting the kettlebell down. This is the pure gold of kettlebell lifting that other systems overlook, and what kettlebell lifters refer to as time under the bell.

WHAT THIS ALL MEANS TO THE GYM-OWNER OR MEMBER
So what does this have to offer the average Jane or Joe, or even advanced athlete?

Starting from the top down, the most advanced athletes may be so inclined as to excel in kettlebell sport to the point of competition, either with themselves, or at an amateur or professional level. Taking it down a notch, true kettlebell lifting builds strength-conditioning like nothing else. It's been coined running with weights, because of the dramatic impact high-rep timed sets has on EVERYTHING, including cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, and pure strength. To quote a wise old kettlebell lifter, "Once you lift kettlebells, everything else just gets easier."

Athletes would be really hard pressed to find a better way to build explosive power, resiliency and recovery, mental fortitude, stamina, and overall athleticism. The firefighters I train usually fall somewhere between athlete and fitness, which leads us to our next discussion, and where the majority of interest lies.

The effect kettlebell lifting can have on a client's health, fitness, and weight loss effort is earth shattering. I'm in awe of what can be done with an average, or even deconditioned, individual - and the process starts quickly. The addictive nature of kettlebell lifting, with its built in progressions, naturally brings the exerciser back for more. But the results they experience are what keep them around for the long haul.

NUMEROUS TRAINING FORMATS
Classes can take many forms, from large groups of over 20 to personalized one-on-one sessions. Learning adequate technique to make it through the upcoming workout is the focus of the first half of a group class, with a 30-minute workout of their lives, following immediately afterward.

Clients are set up on a clear-cut path of either health and fitness or strength and conditioning. Technique demands are similar, but to different degrees of perfection, as per goals of the trainee. In other words, to make it through the long sets associated with strength/conditioning, you need really good form. Either way, the client is coming back for more instruction, more training, or more coaching -- and the results will be there.

Kettlebell training is catching on like wild-fire. Help bring real kettlebells to the New York City / Metro area and see your membership experience something brand new and highly effective. Host a Workshop or Group Class
Kettlebells are an addictive way to train. The uniqueness of kettlebell training keeps clientele challenged, while getting the results they've been looking for. The group class or small workshop is an awesome way to reduce the cost, making it available to anyone who gets curious and wants to give it a shot.

A beginner group class can be set up in 60 and 90 minute sessions. I recommend working longer for the newbies, devoting half the session to proper technique and program progression, with the rest of the class devoted to the workout itself.

In an effort to bring this dynamic fitness system to the NYC and Long Island area, I am now offering my services and equipment for trial 90-minute group class at a discounted price to be hosted by your gym or health club, anywhere in the NYC, Long Island area.* Be one of the first gyms to bring real kettlebells to New York.
