Vitamize Your Diet!
by Kaliannah Shirah

When dieting, your body's nutritional stores are often depleted or reduced, so supplementing your program with a daily dose of multivitamins is recommended. Just about any multivitamins will do (even generic) as long as they contain the proper ingredients.

At the onset of my personal weight loss program I started taking a multivitamin with breakfast and another with supper. I found I was less tired throughout the day, my hair had a noticeable shine, my fingernails were less brittle and my skin was not as oily! That's just the outer-effects of taking multivitamins. Some of the inner effects are noted below.

VITAMIN A
Promotes healthy skin, improved night vision, healthy bones. Found in dark green and yellow veggies, yellow fruit, butter, cheese, milk and liver.

VITAMIN B1
Helps body draw energy from food, increases appetite, promotes a healthy nervous system. Found in eggs, yeast, potatoes, pork and grains.

VITAMIN B2
Promotes healthy skin, helps body draw energy from food. Found in fish, eggs, liver, milk and other dairy products.

VITAMIN B3
Promotes healthy skin and nervous system, helps body draw energy from food. Found in eggs, fish, wheat germ and liver.

VITAMIN B6
Helps body use protein. Found in fish, liver, vegetables and grain.

VITAMIN B12
Helps produce red blood cells, growth. Found in liver, milk, eggs and meat.

VITAMIN C
Promotes healthy gums, protects body against infection, helps wounds heal. Found in oranges, lemons, grapefruit, tomatoes, broccoli, green peppers, strawberries and potatoes.

VITAMIN D
Promotes strong bones and teeth, helps body use calcium. Found in milk, egg yolks, liver, fish oils and butter.

VITAMIN E
Helps blood carry oxygen. Found in vegetable oils and wheat germ.

VITAMIN K
Helps blood clot. Found in broccoli, lettuce and cabbage.

My multivitamin of choice is GNC's Ultra Mega Woman because they contain an abundance of the vitamins listed above. Interesting enough, they also contain more nutrients than the average prenatal vitamin (that's a lot!). Men, take heart, Ultra Mega Man vitamins are also available!
